About Cam Posey

This scholarship program was dedicated to Marine Cam Posey on June 11, 1990. Marine Posey was born on July 14, 1916, and at the age of 8 (when both parents died) was sent to the Masonic home.

He learned the printing trade while there and used those skills later in life to furnish printed materials for his home Detachment and the Department of Texas.

Cam served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged on November 10, 1945.

In 1966 he joined the Alamo Detachment in San Antonio, Texas. He held all offices at the Detachment level and was very active at the Department level as well. He served as Southern Division Vice Commandant and received many distinguished service awards at all levels of the League.

Cam was the Department of Texas Marine of the Year in 1979 and was a Pedigreed Devil Dog in the Military Order of Devil Dogs.

Upon his death on August 26, 1983, his mementos and souvenirs were left to the Department of Texas to be sold or auctioned with the proceeds to be used to establish a scholarship program for deserving young people in Texas.

Hundreds of Texas’ finest scholars have been awarded scholarship monies to assist them in their course of studies in the fields of science, medicine, technology, and education.

These students would not have had this scholarship without the generosity and enthusiasm of Marine Cam Posey and those dedicated Marines who followed his example by contributing to this fund.
