Cam Posey Memorial Scholarship
Hundreds of Texas’ finest scholars have been awarded scholarship monies to assist them in their course of studies in the fields of science, medicine, technology, and education. These students would not have had this scholarship without the generosity and enthusiasm of Marine Cam Posey and those dedicated Marines who followed his example by contributing to this fund.
About Cam Posey
This scholarship program was dedicated to Marine Cam Posey on June 11, 1990. Marine Posey was born on July 14, 1916, and at the age of 8 (when both parents died) was sent to the Masonic home.
He learned the printing trade while there and used those skills later in life to furnish printed materials for his home Detachment and the Department of Texas.
Cam served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged on November 10, 1945.
In 1966 he joined the Alamo Detachment in San Antonio, Texas. He held all offices at the Detachment level and was very active at the Department level as well. He served as Southern Division Vice Commandant and received many distinguished service awards at all levels of the League.
Cam was the Department of Texas Marine of the Year in 1979 and was a Pedigreed Devil Dog in the Military Order of Devil Dogs.
Upon his death on August 26, 1983, his mementos and souvenirs were left to the Department of Texas to be sold or auctioned with the proceeds to be used to establish a scholarship program for deserving young people in Texas.

Criteria
The Cam Posey Memorial Scholarship Fund grants scholarships to qualified individuals to attend college or vocational training within the State of Texas in the order of need and preference. To qualify, the applicants must be:
- Sons and daughters of active members of the Department of Texas, Marine Corps League, or Marine Corps League Auxiliary.
- Sons and daughters of Active members of the Department of Texas, Marine Corps League, or Marine Corps League Auxiliary.
- Grandchildren and great-grandchildren of active members of the Department of Texas, Marine Corps League, or Marine Corps League Auxiliary.
- Members of the Department of Texas, Marine Corps League, Marine Corps League Auxiliary, or any honorably discharged Marine in need of vocational training.
The deadline for submission of the application or renewal request is 1 May, annually.
1. A letter from the applicant’s high school concerning the student’s ability, with a transcript of grades and a recommendation as to further education;
2. A letter from the applicant with a brief life history, choice of studies, and college preference. A recent photograph (wallet size desired) of the applicant is to be attached and any connection with the Marine Corps League or United States Marine Corps, if any, should be noted;
3. A hand-written essay of approximately 250 words on the subject of “Americanism” from the applicant;
4. Completion of the application.
Note 1: The amount of the scholarship will be determined by funds available and the number of applicants, and will be divided equally.
Note 2: All decision of the Scholarship Committee are final and will not be subject to review.
Note 3: If you have a 4-year degree you need not apply as this scholarship is not for post-graduate work.
